Recent Orcas Island vacation rental reviews

the house was wonderful and is well designed despite being small there is plenty of room to relax, cook, sleep having two tvs was wonderful. the Internet works very well despite being in the woods surround by tall trees . kitchen is very well equipped has everything from a turkey roasting pan to bread maker . this home is well insulated & can get very warm inside even with 19% weather 2' plus of snow high winds & rain house was never cold set at 60-65. house could use end table or coffee table in living room area to set laptop or cup of coffee down when watching TV or relaxing. the loft is better suited for children than adults as it has a low ceiling at 5'6" you have to be on your knees to avoid banging your head. the bathroom is small but has full tub & good water pressure the well water is very good & cold. local Vacasa staff were great & helpful with updates on winter storm that started night before arriving that dumped 2-3 feet of snow on the island unfortunately Orcas Island has only 1 plow and doesn't do much about clearing roads or opening there businesses in bad weather most stores restaurants were closed or closed when ever they felt like it with no warning. Raccoon Point Road is unpaved up down a few steep inclines narrow & winding it wasn't till late Wednesday night that the plow even started to plow it somewhat also Vacasa local staff have no way to plow the driveway which is steep & downhill to rental 4 wheel drive (carry cables in winter ) was only way to get to unit & out of driveway do to snow & ice. thank you to Della Orcas manager for calling guest & keeping updated on conditions do to storm. added bonus is this rental is pet friendly enjoying a two week vacation & being able to bring my dog with me really made for a great Christmas. most definitely will rent again very soon.

How to Get to Orcas Island

Like its neighbor Lopez Island, Orcas Island is accessible only by boat or plane. If you're not flying in, the Washington Sate Ferry system travels between Anacortes and all four islands that make up the San Juans, with the ferry trip itself producing quite a few lovely photo opportunities before you even reach your destination.

Things to Do on Orcas Island

Located to the north, right in center of the island, the picturesque downtown area of Eastsound is a hubbub of activity, with many opportunities for exploring the small shops, bookstores, cafes, and museums that make this island so special. History buffs will delight in the historic homes and buildings that make up the quiet neighborhoods of Eastsound, some of the structures dating back to the late 1800s.

The island is also a haven for artisans. Sculptors, painters, potters, photographers and more all show their creations in galleries throughout the island, with a concentration in Eastsound. Be sure to stop by Orcas Island Pottery, the oldest pottery studio in the Pacific Northwest. After you work up an appetite browsing all the handmade vases, bowls, and other pieces, dining out around town also offers an eclectic mix of options - from Smoked Salmon Benedict at the New Leaf Cafe to Thai Hot and Sour Soup and Potstickers at The Kitchen.

Outdoor Activities on Orcas Island

From your Orcas Island beach rental there are numerous outdoor activities to consider. Will it be an afternoon of golfing at the Orcas Island Golf Course? Maybe a morning spent biking the rolling island hills or a lazy Saturday spent on the water, taking part in one of the many whale watching expeditions based right on the island.

Expansive Moran State Park on the east side of the island has almost 40 miles of trails to explore over 5,000 acres of forest. Right on Cascade Lake, it is also a popular destination for swimming, boating, fishing, and picnicking - you'll never run out of things to do here. For an amazing panoramic view, hike the up to the 2,000-foot summit of Mount Constitution and gaze out over both the US and Canada - you will definitely be rewarded for making this challenging, altitude-gaining hike with an amazing, one-of-a-kind vista.

A peaceful stay at a charming Orcas Island vacation rental will allow you to explore all the amazing dining, outdoor activities, and sightseeing options that this beautiful and unique spot has to offer!
